Take part in our study
Do you live in a self-contained home that is smaller than 37 square metres?
We are looking for participants to take part in an important national study about the size of homes in English cities. We want to learn what people like and dislike about living in small homes: are they affordable, liveable, and well-located?
A home below 37 square metres would usually be a studio (a property that combines living and sleeping space without a separate kitchen) or a one-bed flat: this measurement includes bathrooms, balconies and storage spaces. If you are not sure of your property size please get in touch and we will check this for you. Note, we are not interested in those living in shared housing (HMOs), student halls, co-living developments or retirement accommodation - sorry!
In the first instance we are interested in homes in Croydon, Nottingham and Southampton. If you think you live in a home smaller than 37 metres square, and live in one of these three local authorities, then please get in touch, but note you must be aged 18 or above to participate.
What happens if I decide to take part?
After filling in the form below, a member of our team will get in touch via email to check you are eligible to take part. We will then schedule an interview at a time that works best for you.
The interview will be led by one of our team. It will be a relaxed informal conversation about what it’s like to live in your property. The interview will take around one hour and will be audio-recorded. If possible, we would like the interview to take place in your home so we can get a better sense of where you live. If you agree, we might take some photos of things you consider important about your home (e.g. what you like best, what you like least).
What do I get for taking part?
We can offer £40 shopping vouchers for your time, on the understanding that the interview will be taped, transcribed and anonymously quoted in our subsequent project reports.
Please note: the project has ethical approval from King’s College London. We will we collect any personal data from you (e.g. name, income, employment) and your interview transcript will be handled according to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.
